COLD SNAP

The weather has finally decided it’s winter and I am so confused! I didn’t think it was warm enough for my prized Burberry shearling but it probably is; however I also want a new oversized coat yet I have also seen an amazingly cute Zara duffle which must be mine!!!  As trend of the season, this years coat is especially important hence the choice – there’s dream world where Stella’s check wonder and outsized grey catwalk coats would have been draped across my shoulders months ago and Victoria Beckham’s navy check over sized has also been on my mind since first sight in February….whether I’m dreaming or not it’s such a hard life!!  Decisions, decisions…….

Another one bites the dust

Recently it seems every new piece of news from the industry brings news of a big departure.  Emma Hill at Mulberry started the trend, closely followed by Marc Jacobs’s dramatic departure from Louis Vuitton, after which Angela Ahrendts decided to up and leave the fashion world behind; moving from Burberry to Apple and to top it off, this weekend the news that Jill Sander has yet again left the position as Creative Director of her own name brand, after having only returned just over a year ago!  Great losses on each part, however also exciting to see what they all go on to do and more importantly who becomes the lucky one to take over each of these four fashion power houses….watch this space!

Fashion Soundtrack

It was a while ago now but I still think it’s worth a post…..Florence & Fred at Tesco surly have a new creative team behind their recent adverts.  Their summer campaign featured music the amazing Aluna George ‘You Know you Like It’ but it didn’t quite cut it, the music had no relevance to the advert; whereas with the Autumn campaign they got it spot on!  Featuring one of the best songs of the year, Ben Pearce ‘What I Might Do’ Tesco have produced a pretty mint advert……the clothes don’t look too bad either!

Russian Dolls

Miroslava Duma, ex Russian Harper’s editor and street style star is top of my fashion envy list.  With a wardrobe to die for, this girl knows how to dress!  The likes of Chanel (she is an ambassador), YSL and Stella McCartney are everyday staples for the Russian fashionista.

However, there is more to the street style starlet than you might think.  As Digital Director of TSUM, Russia’s most premium department store (think a modern Harrods), her latest project has called upon street style star Elena Perminov, designer Ulyana Sergeenko and Miroslave herself to take centre stage modelling the stores various AW13 collections.

The finished images look pretty amazing, not that we would expect anything less.  Needless to say the Russian’s have arrived and honestly, they couldn’t look better….

Michelle Williams for Louis Vuitton

WOW, just wow! How good does Michelle Williams look as the new face of Louis Vuitton Handbags for AW13?  This is definitely one of my favourite celebrity collaborations ever!  The colours and tone of the images shot by Peter Lindbergh are so deep and seductive; who wouldn’t want to be a Louis V girl when they look like that?

Edie Campbell’s Season

Could it be the dramatic new hair cut or are insiders simply wanting to be one step ahead of the Cara craze?  Whatever it is, on closer inspection the modelling world has and still is being dominated by another young Brit….step forward Edie Campbell!  Since 2011, Edie has been shooting seasonal campaigns for Burberry, her face has been seen on many a catwalk and even featured in Hedi Slimane’s first campaign for Saint Laurent.  However this year has seen Campbell chop off her strawberry blonde locks in favour of a choppy (almost mullet like) black crop; moving out of the shadows and firmly into the fashion spotlight!  It seems the whole industry has taken note and watched this girl morph from the perfectly sweet, doe eyed, sixties inspired dolly girl to an edgy, raw, cool 22 year old.  Campbell opened AW13 shows for influential brands such as Marc Jacobs, Jill Sander, Louis Vuitton and Burberry, not something to be taken lightly.  Soon you won’t be able to miss Edie as she is the new star of AW13 campaigns for Lanvin, Jill Sander and Marc Jacobs!!  It really is Edie Campbell’s season, get in girl!!

Freja – Back to Her Best

Since her first starring role in the Gucci by Gucci fragrance campaign, I have been slightly obsessed with Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen!! From long to short hair, her look inspired designers and made her the iconic model of the last 5 years.  However, recently, perhaps over the last 2-3 seasons, she seems to have disappeared from the limelight….that is until now!!  Freja is back, and obviously being a lot more selective with her work.  Savvy choices see her staring in the iconic new Saint Laurent and Prada campaigns and man, does she looks good….that girls still got it!!!  Freja has reaffirmed her position as the definition of cool and she doesn’t need an Instagram account to prove it….move over Cara and let a pro show you how its done!!

Dolce & Gabbana AW13

For the last few season’s Dolce & Gabbana’s campaigns have been amongst my favourite!  Shot by Domenico Dolce and featuring Bianca Balti, Monica Bellucci and Kate King as well as a new addition Andreea Diaconu, Italian family life is once again at the heart of the concept.  AW13 explores Italian drama and scandal centred around the church and religion.  The backdrop acts as a fitting location for the collection’s main pieces inspired by the catholic church’s traditional mosaic artwork alongside the timeless black and red Dolce lace.  Standout pieces include the amazing gothic, oversized Dolce & Gabbana jewels that this season take the form of crucifixes, crowns and door knocker earrings!  Drama, drama, drama……

Milan RTW AW13

Recession?  When it comes to Milan Fashion Week, there’s no such thing; no one does rich like the Italian fashion crowd and even the snow didn’t seem to stop them.  From the word go Milan took us to the dark side; Gucci’s rainbow collection of SS13 was out and black, dark jewel colours and fierce slicked back hair was in; the AW13 Gucci girl meant business.  Highlights included python skin skirt suits, embroidery, feathers and the gorgeously feminine (but tough) silk skirted evening gowns.  Versace came out strong, exploring the punk revolution with tartan/pvc clad models storming the catwalk; even Prada kept the tone dark, using grungy browns and flashes of mustard.  Moving away from the strong silhouettes, Prada concentrated on softer drapes in tweeds, un-fitted leathers and fur with some Prada magic coming from the occasional flash of contrasting colour (I need the aqua green tweed two piece!!!).  So where was the fun? The kitsch glamour? The colour of the Italian fashion capital?  That job was for one man, Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi with his ‘FF’ Fun Fur archive collection.  Fendi AW13 showed off a collection of fur like you’ve never seen it, accompanied by mohawke’s and what looked (at first) like a small Sesame Street character hanging off each bag, the mood was lightened and Fendi took centre stage.

It was then left to Dolce and Gabbanna to help to bring Milan to an end with their beautiful, classic and oh so Italian collection that, as always, Wowed!
