Milano SS14

For me, Milan is a showman’s playground, colourful, fun and fabulous; a place where Anna Del Russo almost blends into the background (almost)!  As fashion moves from the innovation of London it looks towards the Italian city in expectation of big shows from big brands with major trends.  Gucci kicked things off in a surprisingly relaxed manner, exploring the sportswear trend in a luxe, Italian way, styled with killer heels and slicked back hair.  It was, I felt, one of the weakest Gucci outings in a while, however I still wouldn’t mind looking like that when heading to the gym!  Next up, Dolce&Gabbana sent the internet into overload!  Visions of ancient Greece were intertwined with the classic black Dolce lace, topped off with olympic style wrestling belts and gold everything!  This was the year of the Sicilian goddess…one can only dream!  Moving on from the more traditional Milan to the world of Prada where Miuccia was on a feminist mission.  Celebrating feminism through the exploration of girl gangs and tough love, it was a collection of contradictions that, as always created one of the shows of the season!!  Other standout shows included Marni, Versace, Fendi and of course the queen of cool Jil Sander.

Marc By Marc Shows who’s Boss

Youthful, fun and simply show stopping; it could only be Marc by Marc Jacobs!  Sequins, metallic leathers and silk pyjama’s made the show one of my highlights of NYFW.  Wearability factor was high, I could imagine the pink sequin dress on a perfect summers evening, the silver leather mini dancing the night away in Ibiza and the baby pink trouser suit rocking a hot summer in the city.  This man rarely puts a foot wrong and today he definitely produced one of the most enjoyable shows so far……

New Season

The sun seems to be fading day by day and as the end of August creeps closer, all I can think about is a new A/W13 wardrobe!  Already lusting after several pieces I’ve been racking my brains for ideas of how to raise money – the first being my birthday in just over a weeks time!!  Here are the pieces I’ll be dreaming of on the big day…..

The Met Ball goes PUNK

This year the Met Ball – the most glamourous, fashionable red carpet event of the year, broke the mould; challenged the tradition and went PUNK!!  What better way to celebrate this year’s New York Metropolitan Museum exhibition; ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ than inviting a host of celebrities/fashion legends to dress like an anrchist and stick safety pins through their Versace?!

However, after seeing the pictures I am a little worried about who actually received the memo!?  Sienna Miller looked fierce in her fully studded Burberry Prorsum leather jacket whilst Miranda Kerr accessorised with a dangerously spiky Christian Louboutin clutch and SJP even turned up showing her underwear!!  Special mention for Anne Hathaway who looked amazing debuting a punked up, bleached blonde crop to go with her vintage Valentino, Nicole Richie was definitely the punk princess of the night with Dree Hemingway and Leelee Sobieski rocking their own unique style – both showing true Punk attitude!

As for the guests who decided not to embrace the theme and arrived looking as ball gown perfect as ever….they just didn’t cut it; only the Punked made it onto my favourite’s gallery, these girls got it just right……..

Paris AW13 RTW

And so to the final AW13 fashion week, Paris was as au-inspiring as always, the fashion pack were out in force looking fabulous and as the Chanel show set represented, fashion or at least Chanel is now a dominating force in every corner of the globe – perhaps the World does revolve around fashion after all?  In Paris, you wouldn’t be far wrong; seas of beanies and round sunglasses, sculptured Rupert Sandserdon shoes galore and a whole load of Celine coats adorned the pavements.  Luckily the glamour outside was matched inside as the likes of Celine, Dior, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Chloe, Balenciaga, Valentino…to name but a few, all delivered, some were even the best ever!

Michael’s Midas Touch

Using Turkey as his main inspiration, stereotypically thinking you may envisage copious amounts of fabric draped to create unstructured silhouettes, hooped earrings and headscarves perhaps with the odd belly chain thrown in; however, not if your Michael Kors.  The designers Resort 2013 collection has surpassed my expectation of the New York designer who (if I’m honest) for me represents the Upper East Side ideal of perfection, glamour and practicality.

Yet, as I read in a recent article; this man is not one to be ignored and with Turkey, namly Istanbul as his inspiration; Kors has again proved just that.  Using minimal structure as the base for opulent fabrics and colour; the contrasting textures such as fur and snakeskin mixed with gold EVERYTHING represent a youthful edge.

This collection is if I dare say it rather ‘cool’ maybe a little edgy.  Luxury is key, of course and nothing says wealth like the rich colour pallet of deep cobalt, ruby red, gold topped off by a white safari suit darling; nevertheless it is the sharp tailored lines in shimmering gold/black ikat print, the jewelled peter pan collars, the unfitted overcoat in green snakeskin and thick leather sandal’s in black and metallics that sets this collection apart.

In particular my favourites include the gold Ikat trousers, mid-knee skirts and the corrordinating suits – fit for any occassion.  For me this resort would be as at home sipping cocktails at the closing parties in Ibiza as it would holidaying in the Hamptons.

The New Yorker has done good or, at least I think so!

Just Cos

I noticed Cos have recently posted a few new S/S12 looks which are as always perfection!  However I am also slightly disspaointed as I saw in the Regent Street store some amazing white leather loafers for about £120 and they are no where to be found online?? I really wanted an image as they are amazing but these will have to suffice……Especially loving the white wedges, short suit (which comes in the oddest sizing!) and panneled tailoring>>>>
