The Met Ball goes PUNK

This year the Met Ball – the most glamourous, fashionable red carpet event of the year, broke the mould; challenged the tradition and went PUNK!!  What better way to celebrate this year’s New York Metropolitan Museum exhibition; ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ than inviting a host of celebrities/fashion legends to dress like an anrchist and stick safety pins through their Versace?!

However, after seeing the pictures I am a little worried about who actually received the memo!?  Sienna Miller looked fierce in her fully studded Burberry Prorsum leather jacket whilst Miranda Kerr accessorised with a dangerously spiky Christian Louboutin clutch and SJP even turned up showing her underwear!!  Special mention for Anne Hathaway who looked amazing debuting a punked up, bleached blonde crop to go with her vintage Valentino, Nicole Richie was definitely the punk princess of the night with Dree Hemingway and Leelee Sobieski rocking their own unique style – both showing true Punk attitude!

As for the guests who decided not to embrace the theme and arrived looking as ball gown perfect as ever….they just didn’t cut it; only the Punked made it onto my favourite’s gallery, these girls got it just right……..

Pinafore Watch

Wanted – Topshop Boutique Leather Pinafore.  Pinafore’s can have both good or bad connotations dependant on your experience of them at school; luckily mine happen to be all good and I cannot resist the perfect wardrobe staple.  Step forward Topshop who have yet again delivered with a variety of on-trend options.  They have, in fact outdone themselves this year with the best selection of pinafore’s I’ve seen since my mum came back from the school shop with one in each colour!  Easy and chic, smart or casual; whatever you fancy a pinafore will fit the bill, perfect for Christmas day perhaps.

However, beware: No one wants to look like an extra from St Trinian’s….A pair of clumpy (preferably MiuMiu) boots, chic polo-neck, statement bomber and little beanie (for added warmth) will ensure you look more fashion cool than fashion school!!

Good Press….

Press Days – The opportunity for a brand to show chosen press and industry insiders what their new season is all about.  From the show space to the theme, much like the fashion shows, press days set the scene for the new collection.  They also provide brands with an opportunity to explain their thought process behind the coming season.  Certain pieces can be discussed in further detail and the press are allowed a closer look at the collection.  Usually we wouldn’t get to see certain pieces until they hit the shop floor but fortunately for us, Instagram happy press ladies let us in on the what treats are coming our way this Spring/Summer!

What a week…..

Where to start?  From Sculptural shapes in heritage fabrics and classic cuts  – Burberry Prorsum, McQ leading the way with impressively produced shows with stunning tailoring – to a Lux, relaxed Military theme at Topshop Unique and Joseph proving a muted, muddy colour pallet can be so oh so desirable – contradicted by the crazy yet refreshingly commercial, 70’s party inspired Meadham Kirchhoff – topped of by the outrageously gorgeous prints seen at Basso & Brooke, Holly Fulton and the seemingly unstoppable Mary Katrantzou – London was awash with what can only be described as inspiring clothes surly securing London’s place as the most Inspired Fashion Capital in the World!!!  From the big trends that defined the individual shows to the small details that ran throughout each of them – linking (as only London can) the extrovert with the introvert, the classic with the contemporary and the new with the established.  London rocks…..
