Cannes 2014

The Cannes Film Festival, possibly the most glamourous week on earth?  The biggest stars, from Leonardo Dicaprio, Brangelina and our very own Cheryl Coal; flock to the gorgeous south of France to celebrate the who’s who of the film industry.  After the hideous outfit dissapointment of The Met Ball this year, we all needed some proper glamour to restore our faith in the Hollywood!  It seems one individual can do that all on her own….of course I am talking about Blake Lively! Who else?  She is every bit the Hollywood Glamazon and consistently looks unreal on the red carpet, hair, make-up, the whole ‘look’ is spot on!  An accessory named Ryan Reynolds doesn’t do her much harm either……

Fashion Moves into London

For as long as I can remember fashion has been more than just designing amazing clothes or even catwalk shows.  To ensure a customer for life, brands have to sell a lifestyle, an attitude and overall an identity.  Nothing expresses this more than the brands store which could be online or bricks and mortar.  Take for instance Burberry and Gucci, both leading fashion brands with incredibly accessible, interactive and creative web stores however I still enjoy a good old fashioned shop, boutique, store whatever you call it; there is nothing better than walking through a store surrounded by all the things you love about that specific brand or concept.  Perhaps this is why London has recently seen an influx of brand spanking new stores for us to explore!!  From Celine to JCrew, Karl Largerfeld to Christopher Kane, London is brimming with amazing new spaces by the World’s leading names!  With some just open and others to come, I think its necessary to don those new Nike’s (comfort first) and get shopping…..

Kate Moss – Fashion Icon

Kate Moss has been awarded one of the most recognised accolades in British fashion.  This December, during the British Fashion Awards, Moss will collect a Special Recognition award for her contribution to British fashion over the last 25 years!  I’m not exactly her number one fan, but even I have to admit; from the early images of her bare faced beauty to her most recent shoot that sees her donning the Playboy uniform, she takes one amazing photograph.  Congratulations Kate, 25 years in the industry and still top of your game……

Ruifier

Recently launched jewellery brand Ruifier is bringing a new aesthetic to the luxury market ‘technology and design together in an innovative harmony’ and I am in love!  Combining structured shapes and precious stones, Ruifier is chic yet understated; the ideal combination. Most pieces come in either Sterling Silver or 18ct gold plated vermeil, often featuring precious stones such as black diamonds and emeralds!  Each piece is as visually pleasing as the price tag……and if that wasn’t enough, Ruifier are currently running a competition on twitter to win my favourite piece; the Icon Ring as featured on vogue.co.uk in November’s #WeWantThis! Add Ruifier on twitter @Ruifier for your chance to win!

Another one bites the dust

Recently it seems every new piece of news from the industry brings news of a big departure.  Emma Hill at Mulberry started the trend, closely followed by Marc Jacobs’s dramatic departure from Louis Vuitton, after which Angela Ahrendts decided to up and leave the fashion world behind; moving from Burberry to Apple and to top it off, this weekend the news that Jill Sander has yet again left the position as Creative Director of her own name brand, after having only returned just over a year ago!  Great losses on each part, however also exciting to see what they all go on to do and more importantly who becomes the lucky one to take over each of these four fashion power houses….watch this space!

Luella for Marc by Marc Jacobs

Luella Bartley is back on the scene….for none other than Marc Jacobs himself!  Luella will be taking on Marc Jacobs’s sister line Marc by Marc Jacobs!!! Along with her Friend Katie Hillier who is now the Creative Director, Luella will be heading up the brand as Design Director with Marc Jacobs taking a step back – but still overseeing all ideas.  Hopefully Luella will bring her experience  plus her kitsch attitude to put Marc by Marc Jacobs back in the spotlight!  Watch this space….

JW Anderson Vs Versus

Man of the moment JW Anderson must be eager to impress as he reveals his latest collaboration with Versus this week in New York.  Taking over from Christopher Kane, Anderson has a lot to live up to; but I’m sure given his latest run of success he’ll do just fine!  With Anderson winning the ‘Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear ‘at this years British Fashion Awards, Donatella obviously has her finger firmly on the fashion pulse – lets hope it’s reflected in the latest Versus collection….coming soon . . . .

The Met Ball goes PUNK

This year the Met Ball – the most glamourous, fashionable red carpet event of the year, broke the mould; challenged the tradition and went PUNK!!  What better way to celebrate this year’s New York Metropolitan Museum exhibition; ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ than inviting a host of celebrities/fashion legends to dress like an anrchist and stick safety pins through their Versace?!

However, after seeing the pictures I am a little worried about who actually received the memo!?  Sienna Miller looked fierce in her fully studded Burberry Prorsum leather jacket whilst Miranda Kerr accessorised with a dangerously spiky Christian Louboutin clutch and SJP even turned up showing her underwear!!  Special mention for Anne Hathaway who looked amazing debuting a punked up, bleached blonde crop to go with her vintage Valentino, Nicole Richie was definitely the punk princess of the night with Dree Hemingway and Leelee Sobieski rocking their own unique style – both showing true Punk attitude!

As for the guests who decided not to embrace the theme and arrived looking as ball gown perfect as ever….they just didn’t cut it; only the Punked made it onto my favourite’s gallery, these girls got it just right……..
